    the NAMED clause.

Actually, I would prefer this too.  Like the RETURN clause, the NAMED
clause was retained only for backwards compatibility.  At one time, I
had hoped we could agree to drop these  "obsolete" forms;  but there were 
so many other serious points and time wasn't infinite time for discussion.
