    Is there a way, in CLIM, to interleave command arguments and command
    words?...

The presentation type COMMAND is documented on page 280 of the
CLIM documentation.  You will need to distribute your command set
across different command tables in order to get the specificity
you need.

I find it interesting that you did not discover this from the
documentation.  Can you figure out why the documentation was not
helpful here?  That might help us to improve it.
