edit/test cycle?

Simple question...
With CLISP, what is the best edit/test/code/edit, etc cycle (under X)?
One xterm for editing, another for "clisp -c"? About all I have to
go on is the CLISP man page and "LISP 3rd Edition" by Winston/Horn.
BTW- the environment is Linux (Slackware 1.1.0), XFree86 2.0.
