Allocating big hash-tables

Hi folks,
I need to create a hash-table that will hold about 2 million entries. When
I try to create one, I get an error: either no more room for lisp objects
or lisp stack overflow. Can I avoid these errors or is their some limit on
the size of a hash-table one can create.
