MACL 1.2 and the SE

I'm still back in the wilderness running 1.2.1 or 1.2.2.
I run lisp on my mac IIX at work and it runs fine, then I bring my
work home or to the lab and try running it on a loaded SE. I get a
loud electrical noise and then the mac crashes. I presume there is
some interaction between lisp something in my system and the SE.
Anyone encountered this problem before?
