Way back when, I noticed this too. It would happen with my favorite
little test utility, fact. I would get only the first/last calls
being "traced" if the function was compiled, but would get the full
trace when compiling was disabled. This behavior appeared with 1.3,
but was not present with 1.2. (This all from memory...)
