converting to a FSS

Does anyone know how to convert a :mac-file-type to a FSS (file system
specification)?  in particular, I am trying to take the mac-file-type
returned from (choose-file-dialog) and turn it into a FSS, so I can put it
into an apple event.  Can anyone give me any suggestions?
