I use gcc 1.37, but can tell you only about the Sun4.
Gcc doesn't work to build KCL (for reasons that have not been
tracked down at Austin), but a number of us here (Edinburgh)
use gcc for compiling after KCL has been built by setting
compiler::*cc* to
"gcc -fwritable-strings -msoft-float -DVOL=volatile -I/usr/local/lib/kclsys -O"
The "-I" may, of course, be different.
