Series macros fail in akcl-1-505

I compiled the 8/31/90 version of Dick Waters' Series macro package
in akcl-1-505 (on a Sun4, SunOS 4.1) and then tried the tests.
The result:

    251
   Compiling gazonk3.lsp.
   ; (LISP:DEFUN COMPILER::CMP-ANON ...) is being compiled.
   ;; The variable #:STATE-8283 is undefined.
   ;; The compiler will assume this variable is a global.
   End of Pass 1.
   End of Pass 2.
   OPTIMIZE levels: Safety=0 (No runtime error checking), Space=0, Speed=3
   Finished compiling gazonk3.lsp.
   Loading gazonk3.o
   start address -T 3b01f8 Finished loading gazonk3.o
   Segmentation violation: c stack ok:signalling error
   Error: Caught fatal error [memory may be damaged]
   Error signalled by COMPILER::CMP-ANON.

   Broken at COMPILER::CMP-ANON. Type :H for Help.

If anyone has had better luck, I'd be interested in hearing about it.

The macros (s.lisp) and tests (stest.lisp) can be ftp'd from
ai.ai.mit.edu, dir pub/series.
