trouble with messages after restarting the mailer

I don't run my machine *ALL* the time and sometimes I can't get through
to Riverside to flush my outgoing mail. The problem I'm having is when I
shut my mailer and machine down and then reboot and restart later, the
mailer seems to lose the queued messages. It states that it is
requeueing them but if I do a Probe Host of riverside it doesn't requeue
then from the deferred delivery queue. I'm running 7.2 with the ECO tape
#1 patches loaded. I've also seen similar problems with the mail alias
patch but was getting them before I loaded that.
