how to change program frame configurations without redisplaying


I have a program framework with several configurations.  One of the
configurations has a pane that uses incremental redisplay.  Whenever I
return to that configuration (using
(dw:set-program-frame-configuration 'problem-configuration)) the
redisplayable pane is redrawn, which can take too long.  Is there an
easy way to avoid this? i.e. how can I change configurations without
the redisplay function being called.
