logical pathnames

We are moving a large system developed on a Symbolics to
a Sun running Sun Common Lisp (Lucid) 3.0 and are considering the
use of the public defsystem posted on comp.sys.lisp to make the
rehost smoother.  The documentation used physical pathnames as the
argument to :key-pathname.  Has anyone developed a way to use logical
hosts and pathnames in conjunction with this defsystem?  Thanks for
any help.
