DIY maintenance

I've been asked to prepare a proposal for maintaining our Symbolics
systems ourselves.  We have some number of machines that are not being
used, and a tight budget, making this approach attractive on the
surface.

If you have relevant experience and care to comment, please send mail
to me directly.  I will summarize to SLUG if there is enough interest.
