 Just to clarify a previous point I made-- the relative timing
measurements I've obtained have been provided by users who compared
their applications running on the XL1200 against the systems and
compilers that they had available.  Most everyone was able to get access
to a relatively recent-model SPARC-based system; on the other hand,
compiler vendors can provide relatively frequent updates, and our
contributors may not have had access to what would now be the vendors'
latest and greatest. For example, I believe that there's a recent
release of the Franz Allegro compiler that may have post-dated some of
the measurements.
