If anyone feels like investigating this (I don't, at the moment), I'd
like to recommend a useful tool: xscope.  This is a Unix X application
that intercepts all the X traffic between a client and server and
decodes it for human consumption.  It's available in the "contrib"
portion of the MIT X11R4 distribution.
