   The license transfer fee varies according to system type and
   country.  It's normally waived in the US if the recipient is an
   academic institution.

Why don't Symbolics just waive the transfer fee for the used machines
(particularly the L-machines) especially for home use?

   It's also typically lower than the numbers you cite (in the US) for
   older machines.

Those were numbers (transfer fee and fee to keep the software license
current) provided by Chris (cmaeda@cs.cmu.edu).  What are the typical
numbers?
