UX1200 on an NCD17c x-terminal

Thanks for the replys so far.  The problem still exists, but
we may be getting closer.  The namespace entry for this terminal
is (now, thanks to dmitchel@trc.amoco.com):

  Machine Type: NCD
  System Type: NONE
  Address: INTERNET 192.43.152.36
  Console Location: Bld3 1 Rm16 
  Service: X-WINDOW-SYSTEM TCP X-WINDOW-SYSTEM

Unfortunately, the keyboard is a model N-97, not an N-101.  It has
the "Alt" keys on either side of the space bar, but using them as a "meta"
key just beeps.  Doing a ":Show X Keyboard Mapping MAGNUS:0.0 :Match meta"
returns:

  The keyboard layout type is :NCD.
  Since no specific key binding has deen defined for this layout type,
    the default binding is being used.
