zmail inbox on unix machine

Im trying to switch having my mail spooled by a unix machine
rather than using a mail server on the lispm.
I run into a problem, I think, with the message delimiters
that our unix uses, Ive appended the top portion of the
mail file that I was trying to read.
is this a familiar bug to anyone? Id appreciate any pointers
