John sent me this nnote before leaving for a visit to hp:

    I was making the scheme chip again.

    After certain points in the construction I would
    force gc (with flip-now and reclaim-oldspace) and
    then save the band. Unfortunately, the second time that
    I did this, I was not able to boot that band.

    It is still here, lod3 on cadr2, and it still won't boot.

This is a bug which (I believe) rg fixed once was some patch or other
to the microcode.  my recollection is that disk-save has some arbitary (and
incorrect limit on the highest page it will save).
