a simple text window

   The only remaining external uglyness in the current version is the insertion
   point.  I can't make it go away.  I can make it stop blinking... but not go
   away.  Ideas?

A simple but kludgey way to get rid of the insertion point is to always
make sure that it is off of the screen.  If necessary, add a bunch of 
carriage returns to the end of the text and set the insertion point to
the end.
