There is *one* potential way of doing this rather nicely.  A MacApper called
Norbert Lindenburg has developed a superb shareware system for integrating
source and documentation, which he calls 'Literate Programmers Workshop'.  If
you like, it works similarly to Knuth's WEB, only you write in normal source
and normal text, using paragraphing styling to distinguish one from the other,
and being able to paste pictures as you wish.  It costs something like 70 DM,
and is available on AppleLink.
 
I have been trying to get him to support MCL with specific features (even the
same intelligent parenthesis handling as in Fred), but it is quite capable as a
text editor even now.
