compiling the series utilities?

I've spent some time trying to get Rich Waters' series
file to compile under MCL2.0b1p3.  There were some
changes in the package specs I had to make, had to
define eq-car, had to have some functions available
at compile-time for macro and let interpretation, etc.
But finally, the compiler just hung.

I assume some people have done this, so you could mail
me if it's all been discussed on the net before.
Rich will be giving a talk later this week at BBN here
in Boston about series, so I thought I'd
just get it up and play with it.  But no luck.  Psi.....
