MCL any good? <g>

Here's a fat pitch...

I keep reading references in the CL library I have collected and begun to
inhale along the lines of "a good compiler will blah blah blah".

I heard someone over on CIS say that MCL was pretty highly esteemed as CLs go.
Specifically on this issue of "good compilers do this and that", how does MCL
stack up?

And, BTW, we will probably snap up a Windows CL so we can quickly go
cross-platform (I hope). 

Any recommendations as to the best Windows CL? How about the best Windows CL
that will be the easiest to port to from MCL, if there is any diff on that
score?
