some terminals don't have a back-slash. Does the multics typeball
have it?
(Of course I prefer back-slash for quoting a character as we have
done in Franz.) What "/" should do is another matter. Adding exact
rational numbers as a data type is not necessarily a good idea. unbounded
precision is expensive if there is a long sequence of operations.
