As announced at the SLUG meeting, Genera 7.2 will have support for
connecting to remote sites over serial lines on G-machines (3610s, 20s
and 50s).  You will be able to connect via Chaos and IP-TCP to remote
hosts over syncronous serial lines connected between the serial ports on
two G-machines.  I know this doesn't help for your 3640 and I can't
comment on whether Symbolics will be offering this functionality for
3640s in the future.
