This used to happen to me, and it was always caused by a Unix machine
that was sending hundreds of broadcasts a second trying to contact an
NFS server.  It was generally a non-SUN implementation of NFS.  This
doesn't mean the cause for you is the same, but it's something to
check.  Walk around and look at all your Unix machines and see if one
is in the middle of booting or is up and is in the middle of trying
to access a file or worse do a directory listing.  If so, try unplugging
it from the ethernet for a few seconds.
