empty lmfd 18% full?

   I just purged (on purpose) ALL files from the lmfs of a machine I
   inherited. I wa surprised to find that with NO FILES AT ALL the
   lmfs was 18% full (lmfs was about 5200 blocks total). Is this to
   be expected, or is this strange?

Have you salvaged it recently?  If not, there could be orphans.  And if it
had crashed many times without being salvaged afterward, there may be lots
of blocks reserved in the free block pool.
